I could tell that the 5:30 AM wake-ups plus sleeping a tent with 3 dudes had taken its toll on us. Since we all had a comfortable place to sleep, we slept in til 10:30. We deserved it. It wasn’t really sleeping in for JJ because apparently he got back from the club at 4 AM. Classic JJ, never letting the party end. He was kind enough to make everyone breakfast, so that was awesome. I then decided to just chill out for a while before going to visit the GPR program at UNLV. As some of you may know, I am applying for a 1-year residency at various schools across the west including UNLV. I will also be doing a 2-week externship there at the end of October into November. So this stop in Vegas gave me the opportunity to see if I could actually live here. When I left I had to get my keys from JJ who had been at the pool all day. I got down there to find him in conversation with 3 girls at the bar and a shit-eating grin on his face. I felt pretty cool saying I had to go to the hospital, until one of the girls took it as I needed to go because I was sick. So I left JJ with his crew of lady friends and drove to my possible future.
It took me a little while to find the clinic, but once I did, I was impressed. I showed up unannounced, but I didn’t have the phone number and internet was $15 at the hotel. Oh well. I met the program director and all the residents and really enjoyed talking to all of them. They seemed pretty cool and the facilities were very nice. I could see myself here. I talked about the pros and cons of living in Las Vegas and most of them said it was a fun place to live, obviously. But they said that there was a lot to do besides just the strip, which was nice to hear. I stayed there for about an hour and a half then told everyone I looked forward to seeing them in October. I had a very good feeling there, until I walked out into the 105 degree weather. It’s dry heat, though. (Yeah right, it’s hot.) It was then time to go back to the hotel.
For dinner, Liz was nice enough to send up some complimentary room service. The food wasn’t amazing, but she told me I couldn’t complain because it was free. Fair enough. JJ was pretty pooped from his long night, and long day at the pool. Nick and I wanted to go check out the strip and see a show. We tried to get tickets for a Cirque du Soleil, but they were sold out, so we got tickets for a new show called Absinthe. Right off the bat, I will tell you that if you are in Vegas you MUST see this show. It was awesome. The acrobatics were just as good as Cirque, and the MC was hilarious, I was literally rolling on the ground laughing. And even to make it that much better, it is 10 foot diameter stage with 9 rows of chairs surrounding it and we were in the third row. In other words, we could see the sweat beading off the performers brows and their veins bulging out of their muscles. It was the best show I had ever seen. Nick and I then walked around and checked out all the major hotels of the strip and recreated moments from some of our favorite movies that take place there. We then called JJ to see if he wanted to meet up with us, and the general consensus was rendezvous back at the room. Once we did that, I knew the night was going to be over, but I was OK with that because we had a long day of driving the next day. Back at the room we snacked a little bit, and watched some TV before all passing out very easily. ULTRA day 12/39: COMPLETE
